The International Adoption Association, formerly the Irish Foreign Adoption Group, was formed in 1990 to provide help and guidance to parents who were intending to adopt abroad.
Currently our membership comprises over 1200 families. Some have already adopted abroad and remain part of the group whilst most are parents who intend to adopt abroad. Whatever stage you are at – assessment, awaiting placement etc., our membership can help. ![]()

Prospective Adoptive Parents (Pap’s) should be aware that the 1993 Hague Convention on intercountry adoption provides, as a fundamental aspect of inter country adoption under that Convention, that any referral of a child proposed for inter country adoption must first of all be made by the National Central Authority (NCA) of the country of origin of the child ...
South Africa: Hague Convention state, but specifically informed the AAI in mid-2011 that it would NOT accept packs from Ireland at that time. The NCA has been asked for on update on their position. Irish applicants should not attempt to effect a private (non-Hague Convention) adoption in South Africa. Refer to country specific advisories.
